What is most important this coming year. I believe the answer is to draw nearer to God. The best way to do this, is to spend time in God’s word and be in prayer. Nothing takes the place of reading the word of God and praying because it is a vital part of growing in a healthy and strong relationship with Him. God speaks to us through His word!

Along with reading my Bible and prayer time, each new year, I always write a letter to God. It helps me to connect with Him. After I write a letter to God, I listen for him to write back. Yes, you read that right, I listen for God to write back. I have never heard God’s voice audible, but when I hear His voice, I found that God’s voice matches his word. My letters from God often look like confirmation to what I have been studying in the Bible, praying about in my life and over my loved ones. The Bible says that we know God’s voice. “My sheep listen to my voice: I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27-28 NIV)

God is also our counselor and guide. “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake”. (Psalm 23:1-3) Friends, the voice of God matches His word.

After spending time reading my Bible and praying, I write my letter to God and then I just simply write down everything I hear in my heart that I believe God is speaking to me about. I try not to think about what I am writing, but rather let the words flow till they stop. I have been writing letters to God for years and this has been such a valuable habit that I wanted to share it with you.

I love to read my letter from God throughout the year. It has helped me to stay focused, reminding myself of things I know God said to me personally. I treasure the closeness between us. I believe with the Bible, the word of God in our hand’s and staying in communication with Him, we start the New Year off encouraged and intentional!
